How to use and adjust the Marker Alpinist
This guide takes you through how to adjust the Marker Alpinist binding to your boots, how to set the DIN release value, and most importantly, how to use the binding while you're on your tour! This guide applies to all versions of the Alpinist binding.
Length Adjustment
The binding is adjusted forward and backward using a star screwdriver (PH2). The rear housing should be adjusted so that it just touches the back part of the boot and the pins are fully engaged with the boot. Make sure there is no weight on the boot when making this adjustment.
Release Value Adjustment
The release value is adjusted by turning the silver screw (TX20) at the top of the rear housing. There is a scale on the back of the binding to help you set the correct value.
Walk Mode
If the binding has ski stoppers installed, lock them by pushing the lock lever forward and pressing the stoppers down flat until they hang. Then rotate the rear housing 180 degrees so that the pins point backward. Step into the front housing with your boot. Pull up the lever on the front housing so that it is in walk mode. Flip the heel lifter forward to use it. You can also rotate the rear housing back into ski mode and flip the heel lifter over the pins for another level.
Ski Mode
Rotate the rear housing so that the pins point forward. Pull the ski stopper lock lever backward so that the stoppers make contact with the ground. Step into the front housing with your boot. The lever on the front housing should be in walk mode. Step hard on the rear housing so that the boot is securely locked into place.
How to Attach Ski Crampons
To attach ski crampons, hold the crampon vertically either on the right or left side of the binding. Then slide the crampon in until it is centered on the ski. You can then lower the crampon flat onto the ski. To remove it, do the same motion in the opposite direction.
The easiest way to attach ski crampons is to do it after you have removed the skis from your feet, but with some practice, you can save both time and energy by attaching and removing the crampon while still wearing the skis.
