Why Choose Pre-Cut Skins?
What Makes Our Ski Skins Extra Special?
Back to all guides > How to Choose the Right Touring Skins
The most common materials used for ski skins are nylon and mohair. Nylon skins offer excellent durability, while mohair skins provide unmatched glide. A middle ground is the so-called mix skins, which combine the glide of mohair with the durability of nylon. We focus on pure mohair skins and mix skins.
We believe mix skins are best suited for touring skis used throughout the winter, as their durability makes them ideal for harder snow conditions, often encountered in spring. Mohair skins, on the other hand, deliver superior glide on dry snow, making them ideal for wide touring skis primarily used earlier in the winter season.
We recommend choosing a skin that is at least as wide as the waist of your ski. A skin that is too narrow can make it challenging to get a good grip when ascending, especially when traversing on hard snow. If you purchase skins for your SGN skis from us, we’ll customize them to ensure they fit your skis perfectly.
Modern skins are usually available in pre-cut lengths with a few centimeters of adjustment. If you choose a length that matches your ski length, you can be confident it will fit.
Different skin manufacturers have different methods for customizing skins. Instructions and tools are typically included. If you shop with us, you don’t have to worry about customizing your skins. For our most popular models, we offer pre-cut mix skins. If you prefer one of our other models, we’ll customize the skins for you, ensuring a perfect fit.
Already have SGN skis in your collection and need new skins? We’ll customize those for you, too!
